You start at the Rifugio Saoseo by following the southbound road for approx. 300 m. Then turn right onto the hiking path to Terzana. Continue across the idyllic Poz da Rügiul until you reach the turn-off and take the fork to Aura Freida. After a quite strenuous 200-m-ascent up to 2'168 m, the beautiful moor Plan da San Franzesch awaits you with a stunning view of Piz Varuna, the Palü glacier and Piz Palü. A comfortable hike on a dirt road turns out to be a veritable panoramic trail; past several scenic points and quaint hamlets you slowly descend to Poschiavo. Here, Italinitá is in the warm air, and mediterranean charm welcomes you to the lovely piazza with its grand buildings. Restaurants offer delicious gelati - a real treat which you definitely should indulge in!
Your return journey is equally fascinating: Relax and enjoy the train ride on the Rhaetian Railway through loop tunnels and past milky-white glacier lakes and blue-shimmering glaciers.

Tips and hints

As there is often still a lot of snow at the beginning of June and most SAC huts are no longer staffed at the end of October, the best time to complete the Bernina Trek is from the end of June to the beginning of October.
